Pigment is one of my favorite stops in North Park. The unique, and expansive shop, features a wide variety of fresh and creative goods. Known for its lush array of succulents and colorful product displays, Pigment is a great place to pick up jewelry, creative stationary, or maybe a hand-crafted terrarium. Pigment is beautifully designed and changes frequently with multiple sections, and themes, to peruse.
The space is visually inspiring and filled with so many treats, its hard to decide where to start. The merchandising and display is creative and playful, yet truly cohesive. Each table or region of the store is clearly designated based on its type of product. Pigment's inventory is vast and extensive: the widest assortment of Swell Water bottles in San Diego (don't quote me on that), soft leather Baggu bags, inspiring and uncommon books (check out Cabin Porn), and adorable children's goodies. I can't wait to stop back in and pick up a pair of these easy sandals, which Pigment offers in a wide variety of patterns and colors. I also love their assortment of cards, stationary and notebooks--this cute collection of two by Compendium Inc. is beautifully crafted.
Pigment also features a "Plant Lab"--allowing customer's to design and create their own custom terrarium or planter. Located to the right of the store, the "Plant Lab" provides all the accoutrements necessary for this endeavor. Containers of brightly colored sand and stones sit beside a wide variety of air plants and cacti. The finished product is beautiful and vibrant, a cute, little display of a desert landscape.
Pigment offers workshops and classes about once a month--with sessions like floral design and calligraphy, you'll want to sign up immediately. On April 23rd, Pigment is offering both a Paper Flower and Calligraphy workshop. The Paper Flower class is $50 per person, and features the expertise of Sara Kim. All materials are provided, along with refreshments! The Calligraphy class is slightly more expensive at $125 per person, but is a three hour course teaching participants the fundamentals of modern calligraphy. Pigment states, "This course will not only cover basic instruction, but also provide you with an introduction to intermediate techniques, as well as coaching and direction for the next steps you will need to advance your lettering in order to develop your own style of calligraphy." Each student will receive a curated take-home kit by Jenna Rainey--encouraging each participant to continue and explore calligraphy.
Next time you're in the neighborhood, or in need of the perfect gift, be sure to stop by Pigment. You'll be sure to find just what you need...and then some.
